Introduction
A public board of links where every listing holds years, years burn as the listing is seen, and rank is years remaining
What Highlander is
A public board of links. Entry is free. Every listing holds years, and years burn as the listing is seen — one per visit delivered, ten per day held. Rank is years remaining, so the top of the board burns fastest and no reign is permanent.
A listing whose balance is at or below zero when the daily tick runs is beheaded: struck through, moved to The Fallen, gone from the board. Buying years is how you keep standing.
Everything runs inside a Gathering — a seven-day season that ends when one immortal is left standing or the clock runs out, whichever comes first. The last one standing goes in The Hall; everyone still standing takes 100 years into the next season.
One direction of money
Nobody is paid out. There is no publisher, no revenue share, and nothing of ours runs on anyone else's site. We host the board, we sell years, and we deliver visits. What you buy is delivery; your position on the board is a side effect of what you have left.
One other thing is for sale and it is not a year: a patron slot, three of them, wall space beside the board for a month. A slot buys no rank, no years, no vote and no say in a Gathering — Patrons says so at more length. Money buys years for a listing, or it buys that. Never both, because the moment a slot could be paid for in years, years would be a currency instead of a fuse.
The rules
Every number in the game is on The Rules — the board's in one table and everything that mints or burns beside it — along with the rules that are not numbers and where each of them is written out in full.

The board opens on its top 30 and a show more button walks down from there, 30 at a time, as far as 250. Not a scroll-length decision: every row draws its own mark, so a full board was two hundred and fifty extra requests paid by every visitor for rows almost none of them reach.
The ranking does not stop where the table does. Every rank shown is the real one, and a listing at 400 is ranked 400 whether or not the table reaches it — the box above the table finds any listing by domain and says where it stands, and your own rank is on your dashboard and on your listing's page either way.
Where to go next
- The Rules — every number in one table.
- Entering — submitting a link and getting out of The Mists.
- Surviving — years, burn, the cap, the tick, the Vigil.
- The Arena — one listing against one other, for a day.
- Packs and billing — what a pack costs and what a payment does.
- The Gathering — seasons, the victor, the Hall.
